PARTY ARTY LAUNCH PARTY

Since August ’19, I’ve had the pleasure of serving on the Party Arty Planning Committee for the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. For those who don’t know what Party Arty is, let’s just dive right in!

Party Arty is more than just a night of food, drinks, and entertainment; this event is your chance to help fund the museum’s education efforts, community outreach initiatives, and free access to more than 500,000 visitors each year.

Usually themed with the museum’s current temporary exhibit, Party Arty is an incredible event (and a great excuse to get artistically dressed in over-the-top formal attire). The bar is open, local talent is showcased, and there is So. Much. Food. Have I sold you on it yet? Because you can get your ticket right now at PartyArty.org.

After much mystery and build-up, we finally revealed this year’s theme at our Launch Party on November 14th. Our partner and host for the evening, Mission Taco Joint, crafted two beautiful signature cocktails and provided some delicious snacks. There was a wheel to spin, coloring pages, and giveaways—all in all, a pretty great evening. And where do I come in? I was asked to make some of the collateral for the event!

Working with the original design package from Reactor Studio, I created a set of scrolls that revealed the theme, listed the event details, and shared our social channels.

While I used most of the assets that Reactor had already developed, I adjusted or added some design elements for the scrolls. Probably my favorite is the switch from a single, textured color to the gradient background. The yellow-to-blue transitions really evokes a sunset, a theme that has been frequently discussed in our meetings as the transition from the land of the living to the afterlife.

The smaller scrolls were handed out to attendees of the Launch Party all rolled up and sealed with a sun sticker (so cute!). At 7PM, our co-chairs—s/o Weston and Alyssa—revealed the theme and everyone unfurled their personal scrolls.

The biggest—literally—contribution was a large-scale scroll to be unfurled as part of Reveal speech. Big thanks to some of the ladies on the committee who had to stand on chairs while unrolling!

And probably most exciting…both scrolls lived on after the Launch Party! They made another appearance at the Nelson-Atkins’ Third Thursday event.
